About Dakoo

Look out of any window in Sobha City or Bhartiya City and you’ll see thousands of people living surprisingly similar lives while making a heroic effort to do everything separately.

Diwali arrives and every home needs lights, so we drive out separately, sit in the same traffic, visit the same markets, bargain separately, buy fifty different qualities at fifty different prices, call fifty electricians, then carefully store those lights for a year so that next Diwali we can either not find them or proudly discover that half no longer work.

What if, instead, a community rented thousands of matching lights together, say โ‚น150 instead of buying each set for โ‚น500, and one vendor installed them, removed them and stored them properly for next year?

Residents save money and cupboard space; the vendor gets one large order with less advertising, transport, billing, staffing and collection work; fewer cars hit the road; less packaging gets thrown away; and the same product earns again instead of another one being manufactured and shipped halfway around the world.

Now apply that thought to AC servicing, painting, health checkups, MRIs, airport rides, holidays, milk, iPhones, cars, tools and hundreds of everyday needs.

One household has limited bargaining power. A thousand households are a market.

And there was another discovery hiding inside all this: people aren’t only looking for better deals, they’re looking for their kind of people.

Bangalore is a cosmopolitan city filled with people who left hometowns, old friends and family circles behind to build something here, yet the person who loves the same books, wants to cycle at 6 AM, needs one more player for cricket, wants to discuss the same strange idea, or is planning the same trip may be living two floors away.

Intellectual intimacy can be one of the deepest forms of human connection, but nobody becomes friends by filling out a friendship form. People become friends by doing things together.

Dakoo came from putting these two simple ideas together: people living close to each other can buy, rent, share and travel together, and they can find each other too.

Maybe that means less traffic, less waste, lower household costs, stronger local businesses, a smaller carbon footprint and, over time, fewer unnecessary imports. Or maybe it just means you finally meet the interesting person who has been living 200 metres away all along.

Either way, it seemed worth building.

Safety rules for our community

Dakoo is used by families: children, teenagers, working adults, senior citizens, domestic staff and pets all share these towers. These rules exist so everyone stays safe. Breaking them removes the post and can remove the member.

Nothing that puts a child at risk

Never post a child’s photo, full name, school, class timing, flat number or daily route, not even your own child’s. Never offer or ask for tuition, coaching, sports or babysitting through private one to one chat with a minor: an adult family member must be in every conversation. Adults must not contact a minor directly through anything they find here.

Meet in the open, first time always

Handovers, viewings, test rides and first meetings happen in the lobby, clubhouse, parking or gate area, never inside a home. If you are a woman, a senior citizen or a minor, take someone with you. Tell one neighbour where you are going.

Money moves only between people, never through Dakoo

Never pay in advance to someone you have not met. Dakoo, the admin and the maker never collect money and never hold deposits. Anyone asking you to pay Dakoo, pay an admin, share an OTP, share a bank password, or send a token amount to block a deal is running a scam. Report them immediately.

Domestic staff are neighbours too

House help, cooks, drivers, guards and gardeners must never be listed as if they were goods. Share a contact with their permission, describe their work respectfully, and never post their photo, ID, address or salary without consent. Discrimination by caste, religion, region, gender or skin colour is not allowed anywhere on Dakoo.

Pets are family, not merchandise

Adoption and fostering only. No selling, no breeding services, no rehoming for a price. Vaccination status must be stated honestly when a pet changes hands.

No harassment, no hate, no adult content

No abuse, threats, stalking, unwanted personal messages, casteist or communal remarks, body shaming or gossip about neighbours. No adult, violent or gambling content of any kind. Repeated personal messages after someone has said no is harassment and is treated as such.

Other people’s details are not yours to share

Do not post anyone else’s phone number, flat number, photo, vehicle number or CCTV footage without their clear permission. Do not screenshot Dakoo conversations into other groups.

Everything here follows Indian law

No weapons, drugs, tobacco, alcohol, prescription medicines, fireworks trading, lotteries, betting, chain schemes, counterfeit goods or unlicensed services. Illegal activity is removed and reported to the authorities.

Discussion rooms are not free-for-alls

Every pool, club and roots room has its rules pinned at the top. Talk about what the room is for. No selling into a room that was not made for selling, no forwarding what people said there, and no adding outsiders. What is discussed in a room stays for the members of that room.

The tenants room is only for tenants

Only the person named on the rental agreement may join it. Not a spouse, parent, child or other relative of that person, and never an owner or landlord. Joining it falsely is a permanent ban from Dakoo, and so is vouching for somebody who does.

You answer for whoever you bring in

Invite only people who actually live here. If somebody you invited turns out to be an outsider, they are removed and so are you. If you got in falsely, everyone you invited goes with you. Dakoo keeps a record of who invited whom, and everyone affected is told why.

Nobody speaks for the group unless the group says so

In a bulk buy, members pick their own negotiator between themselves. That person speaks for nobody until the group agrees. No collecting money on behalf of others, no advance payments to a member, and no vendor kickbacks. Dakoo is not part of the money, the deal, the discount or the quality.

Report honestly, and only what is real

Reporting is there to keep the board clean, not to settle scores. False or repeated bad-faith reports are treated as abuse and carry the same penalties as the thing being reported.

Adults only for posting

You must be 18 or older to post, sell, hire or join a pool. Teenagers can take part in sports and hobby groups only with a parent’s account and a parent present at meetings.

The rules that never bend

01

Dakoo never asks you for money. Nobody from Dakoo will ever ask for a payment, a deposit, or an OTP. Anybody who does is a scam. Report them.

02

Meet in a public part of your community. The gate, the clubhouse, the lobby.

03

See the thing before you pay for it. Photographs are what somebody chose to show you.

04

Check the paperwork yourself on anything that has any: a flat, a vehicle, a service contract.

05

In a bulk buy, the money goes between you and the vendor. Never through a neighbour collecting on everybody’s behalf, and never through Dakoo.

06

For anything medical, call the hospital and the emergency number first, and post second. Dakoo is not a blood bank and checks nothing.
